Divisions:
Crime Prevention Division:
The Venice Police Department crime prevention mission is to help establish an interaction between the citizens of the community and the police department.
Detective Division:
The Detective Division is made up of four separate units which include, criminal investigations, special investigations, school resource officers, and the crime scene, property and evidence function.
Property and Evidence:
The Property and Evidence Section is responsible for the receipt, documentation, storage, and tracking of all evidence and found property.
Records Bureau:
The Venice Police Department makes all records available in accordance with Florida Sunshine Law. This Bureau primarily manages all types of records, crash/incident reports, etc.
Vehicle Patrol:
For Vehicle Patrol an officer is the first responder to all law enforcement calls for service. On any given day, the spectrum of assistance that patrol officers provide ranges from giving directions to full-scale emergency response.
K-9 Unit:
The team assists the Patrol Division’s activities by responding to incidents requiring the unique abilities of the K-9 teams. They are taught to detect illegal narcotics such as marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin. They are also trained to protect their handler, to track and help apprehend suspects fleeing from police or harming others, and to search for missing people.
Marine Patrol:
The Venice Police Department Marine Unit is responsible for law enforcement and rescue activities on the waterways in and around the City of Venice. The unit patrols area lakes, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Gulf of Mexico up to 9 miles offshore.
Bike Patrol:
The Officers on Bike Patrol team patrol the Legacy Trail, Venetian Waterway Park, downtown shopping areas, beaches, parks, industrial areas, neighborhoods, and golf courses. The main reason to deploy the Bike Patrol Unit is to access certain parts of the community or neighborhood that are not convenient by patrol cars.
