Escambia County is located at the western tip of the Florida Panhandle and is bordered by Alabama on the north and west and by the Gulf of Mexico on the south. The population as of 2010 was 297,619, and the largest city and county seat is Pensacola, a sea port on Pensacola Bay. The county is comprised of a total of 875 square miles, 25% of which is covered by water. The county was established in 1821 and named after the Escambia River, which forms the eastern border of the county. Escambia may come from the Creek word “Shambia”, meaning clearwater. The county originally covered the entire panhandle and “big bend” areas, but this was eventually broken into 21 counties.
Unlike most counties in Florida, the Escambia County Jail is not under the supervision of the County Sheriff’s Office. In 2011, the U.S. Justice Department found that constitutional rights of prisoners in the jail were being violated. Although reforms took place, in 2013 the jail was transferred to the oversight of a County Department of Corrections administered by the Board of County Commissioners. The current jail facilities, as of January, 2016, hold a total of 1,300 inmates, but the county is in the process of planning and building a new jail to replace a facility damaged by a gas explosion in 2014. Information about video visitation with inmates can be found on the county website. The Visitation Center is located at 1190 W. Leonard Street in Pensacola. The Main Jail is located at 2955 North L Street. To contact the Corrections Department with inquiries about inmates and regulations, call 850-595-3100. Mail for an inmate in any of the county facilities may be sent to P.O. Box 17800, Pensacola, FL 32523.
The Century Correctional Institution is a state-run facility located at 400 Tedder Rd., Century, FL 32535, in northern Escambia County. It opened in 1991 and houses a maximum of 1,345 adult male inmates in close, medium, minimum, and work release custody. The Institution also supervises Century Work Camp, Pensacola Work Release Center, and Berrydale Forestry Camp. To inquire about visitation schedules, regulations, or a specific inmate, call 850-256-2600 or visit the website of the Florida Department of Corrections.

They are quick and professional and very personable. They want to help you get things done and as fast as possible. They explain the entire situation and keep in contact with you. Very good people.
As the owner of a PR firm who on occasion deals with high-profile clients who unfortunately can become intertwined in a legal issues from time to time, I sometimes need the assistance of an efficient, discreet, trustworthy and responsive bondsman. Matt McKeehan is the ONLY bondsman I will trust to handle my client's needs- OR my friend's needs. The staff (especially Jen) is empathetic and attentive, where other bail bonds companies have left me feeling disappointed. Having previously worked in criminal defense, I am continuously impressed with McKeehan's follow-up and knowledge of the judicial process. I cannot recommend this Bail Bonds company enough.
They make the process fast and easy and oh yeah free pens.
